To my U.S. Senators:
Under the auspices of “protecting children,” S.1748 opens the door for the creation of a Digital ID.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is proposing that Big Tech giants like Apple and Google verify the identity of every smartphone user, for every app, at the OS level. Once that infrastructure exists, it does not stay limited to social media. It applies to every app on the phone. Every website accessed through that phone’s browser. Every communication sent through any app on the device.
Zuckerberg acknowledged proposals like this function as a backdoor to digital ID.
This is more than age verification. It is a national digital ID layer baked in
Parents should guide their children — not federal bureaucrats and Big Tech companies working together to surveil everyone.
S.1748 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and must be rejected outright.
Sincerely,
