I am writing to demand you OPPOSE the so-called “DISCLOSE” Act, a bill that would trample the First Amendment rights of every American citizen.
The fact is, this bill’s real intent is to enable the government and individuals to harass and intimidate into silence those who might criticize Members of Congress during election years.
Therefore, as your constituent, I demand you OPPOSE “DISCLOSE” or any similar bill that may come up for a roll-call vote.
| Whereas: | Freedom of Speech and the right to criticize members of Congress are vital liberties; and |
| Whereas: | The so-called “DISCLOSE” Act would impose sweeping new regulations on organizations to keep them quiet and cripple their effectiveness during election years; and |
| Whereas: | The “DISCLOSE” Act would force grassroots organizations to publicize and release the names of supporters making them vulnerable to threats, intimidation, or worse from radical left-wing mobs; and |
| Whereas: | The “DISCLOSE” Act would increase regulation of Americans’ online speech beyond paid advertising to include communications on groups’ or individuals’ own websites and email messages; and |
| Whereas: | The “DISCLOSE” Act would have a chilling effect on free speech and place burdensome regulations on groups of citizens carrying out their Constitutionally-protected civic duties; |
| Therefore: | As your constituent, I demand you publicly OPPOSE “DISCLOSE” and vote against it or any similar Bill that comes before Congress. |
