Whereas: |
Privacy from government spying is a chief cornerstone of our liberties, enshrined in the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution; and |
Whereas: |
The House of Representatives fast-tracked H.R. 6729, which copies language from Section 314 of the so-called “PATRIOT” Act and broadened the range of customers’ personal information that the government may unilaterally demand without probable cause or warrant; and |
Whereas: |
In 2019, the new Congress will move swiftly to take up an extension of the so-called USA “Freedom” Act, which reauthorized the Deep State’s spying powers that had expired just days before under the so-called “PATRIOT” Act; and |
Whereas: |
Nearly 17 years after passage of the original “PATRIOT” Act, Congress should be curtailing the Deep State’s spying powers, not expanding them; |
Therefore: |
I insist you pledge to oppose ANY extension or expansion of the Deep State’s unconstitutional spying powers. |
